Outcomes and the Processes That Drive Them

Growth initiatives take on many forms, but the engagement needed often seems very limited.

One common approach we see is driving growth through big announcements and demanding outcomes. End results, packaged as growth KPIs, are communicated alongside motivational speeches and margin-cutting incentives to engage employees. While this approach generates initial engagement, the hype tends to fizzle out. And if it doesn't convince every employee, sporadic heroes emerge, carrying the load alone.

But scenarios like this leave many aspects to chance. Random, uncoordinated contributions have far less impact than what's needed to truly drive growth initiatives.

So, we built a map that leads everyone to the outcomes needed.

This process starts by breaking KPIs into their component steps and identifying the contributors for each. Each step may have multiple contributors, and contributors may support multiple steps.

Advantages of the map system:

Small outcomes compound into big results. Instead of chasing one massive goal, each step has its own outcome. Small contributions add up to achieve the big goal when the map is followed through.

Right people, right positions. Contributors can be chosen based on capability needs at every step, matching the person best suited for each role. This works well with internal teams and external stakeholders alike.

Knowledge becomes a resource. When communicated effectively throughout the steps, your company can leverage tacit knowledge, facilitate knowledge spillovers, and help employees develop the skills needed to master their assigned steps.

Technology serves a purpose. Technology can either automate steps or support employees in executing them. At this point, companies engage technology meaningfully, rather than implementing solutions with poor adoption.

The result: When the right people are positioned right, outcomes follow naturally, without sacrificing margins or relying on hype. Just capabilities placed strategically.
